Description of the flag

The Program Executive Office for Aviation is the Army manager for ten project offices including: Apache Helicopters, Aviation Mission Systems & Architecture, Cargo Helicopters, Utility Helicopters, Improved Turbine Engine, Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft, Future Long Range Assault Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Fixed Wing Aircraft and Multinational Aviation Special Projects. It was established in 1987. It designs, develops, delivers and supports advanced aviation capabilities for operational commanders and its allies. Each of the Army PEOs direct the Acquisition Executive's lines of effort, such as Ground combat systems. The PEOs work closely with the directors of Cross-functional teams of the Army's Futures command.

Current lines of effort and their respective PEO's are:
Ammunition (JPEO AMMO, renamed Joint PEO Armaments and Ammunition)

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND)
